WICed Fest 2003 – Boat Slips and BBQ

WICed Fest 2003 is quickly starting to take place. Once again this year, the Marina at Cottonwood Cove will be our headquarters. Talbot, the Marina owner, will be providing boat slips for the WICed Festers at a small fee. If you’re bringing your boat, and we strongly suggest you do, (you wouldn’t want to miss out on all that great riding, would you?) simply give Talbot a call at (203) 746-2947 and let him know that you want a slip for the WICed Fest!

Also, the Marina will be providing a BBQ for all the WICed Festers during the weekend. For $12 each day you’ll be able to eat and drink. You can’t beat that deal anywhere!

If you have any questons, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with eitherDan or Rob.

There’s plenty more information coming your way in the upcoming week or two! Stay tuned!

WICed Fest 2003 Announces Dates

Brookfield, CT – AXIS Boardsports is proud to announce that the sixth annual WICed Fest will take place on the weekend of Friday, June 20th through Sunday June 22nd. As usual, Candlewood Lake, and more importantly the Marina at Cottonwood Cove, will play host to the WICed Festers for the weekend with bands, food, and vendors taking up residence at this waterfront venue.

For those of you who don’t know, the WICed Fest, which stands for the Wakeboarding In Connecticut Festival, is a weekend long grassroot event that celebrates and promotes the sport of wakeboarding in the Northeast. The WICed Fest provides the wakeboarding community in the Northeast with a place to bring their friends and family to enjoy the sport they love.

Last years WICed Fest drew in excess of 700 people – the largest crowd to date at the Northeast’s biggest wakeboarding festival. We garnered national attention with a write up in Wakeboarding Magazine and were also featured in articles on many prominent wakeboarding websites. By all accounts, the bands, the vendors, and – most importantly – the riding made the event one to remember! For more information and pictures from last year’s event, please visit our website at www.wicedfest.com.

After the phenomenal success of the previous five WICed Fests, the event organizers are more excited than ever to put on the biggest wakeboard party that the Northeast has ever seen! As of right now, AXIS Boardsports, Hyperlite Wakeboards, Malibu Boats, and Earthwake Designs have signed on as sponsors. Several other sponsorships are in the works and we are always in search of new sponsors.

More information on the event, or if you are interested in sponsoring the WICed Fest, please contact:

WICed Fest 2002 Recap

Shenanigans went down big time at the Fifth Annual WICed Fest! Check out this quick recap to see what all the commotion was about!

Impressive….that’s the one word that I think of every year to describe the WICed Fest and this year was no exception. It seems that every year gets better, bigger, and phatter!

Friday started off all overcast and ugly. I worked until about noon and headed down to Candlewood for the weekend. I helped the crew set everything up and by the time we had finished, the sun had ripped through and the day was ready for riding. Before we get to that though, I really have to hand it to Rob Anderson, his crew at AXIS Boardsports, Talbot from the Marina and all the people who help us every year. We really have figured this thing out and setting up for this year’s event went smoother than it every has. There were no hitches. So, we get out and get some riding in. Conditions were decent and everyone in the crew had a great run. I was lucky enough to ride with listees Steve Haynes, Brent Franklin, and their respective others. All rode well and started getting stoked on that nights activities.

After picking up my girlfriend (she had to work all day in NYC and took the train all the way back to Danbury), I headed over to Down the Hatch with my crew and my brother and his friends. This place was off the hook. I ran into people I hadn’t seen in a year or two and a good time was had by all. For those of you who don’t know, Down the Hatch is a bar right on the water that most people can drive their boat up to. Pete’s WICed Ale had drink specials going all night and we just rocked the house.

Eventually, everyone dwindled out around closing time and rambled into a bed somewhere. Me and my crew were amongst the couple of people to brave the early morning wake up call (and cold air) that got some great riding on some glass. Brent, Ant, Steve and I all had great sets and really enjoyed riding. It’s become a tradition every year that the guys get up early and ride while the “women folk” sleep late and cruise over to meet us mid-day. We had a great time that morning for doing some photo-shoot work (Brent always seems to go bigger when there’s a camera on him) and even did some gnarly wakeskating.

Then it was back to the Marina….ah, the Marina….home base for the WICed Fest. This year, we had so much to do there! Lucky Soul Tatoo had a booth set up displaying work and they were super cool. I’ll be heading down there soon as it’s too cold to ride (don’t need to cut into riding time while I take care of new ink). Bruce Chrisner from Liquid Force worked the place like a superstar, hooking everyone up with LF demos and all in all just being a great ambassador to the sport. LF, you guys are lucky to have a guy like this hawking your goods. AXIS had a tent set up and provided all the Festers with the little things they forgot…shades, sunscreen, hats, towels, etc. On top of that, they are all just a chill group and rocked to hang with. NYC artist Chris Colorusso provided the Festers with a Chill Out Room where you could get out of the shade…definitely a “chill” place. Then there was my personal favorite. Brookfield Community Chiropractic had an area set up where they were doing adjustments. This lady became my (and just about everybody else’s) best friend for the weekend. For no charge, she’d crack every bone in your back, next, and shoulders and make you feel like a million bucks. I’m sure she got more than one new customer.

To top it all off, we had some of the most kickass bands play! Silencer, BigTopLow, Flood, Windfall, Super Kid, Rainshine, and GuerrillaFinga all rocked the party! I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a great group of bands (and people – the members of the bands that I did get to talk to were incredibly cool and super stoked to be there!). As always, we were psyched to have such a great arraingement of bands and are so gratious to the bands for playing!

Amongst all this chaos, people found time to ride….alot! That was probably the best thing I noticed about this year’s WICed Fest. A lot of people came up to me and said that they thought the best thing about the weekend was that the vibe was the best it’s ever been and that there seemed to be more emphasis put back on the riding! That is probably the thing I am most proud of this year! I think we had lost a little bit of that and had become too concerned with getting things for people to do. The emphasis of this event was and always will be the riding! I’m glad people are starting to really feel that way.

Saturday night was completely insane. We had a luau on the docks with Brent, his fiancee Christy, and my girlfriend Marissa working the tiki hut/bar. These guys worked their tales off to make sure that everyone had a good time and I’m so thankful to them. I’d also like to thank Malibu for helping us out and sponsoring the party. Without you guys and your support, it wouldn’t have been as great as it was!

Sunday has always been a chill out day and this year was no exception. Everyone was worn down and chill. Most of the sponsors were able to come back and set up shop for the day. We had demos going all day and people just hanging around chilling with their new riding buds. The afternoon was highlighted by a water trampoline contest that pro rider CJ Kelley MC’d and the Flying Hawaiian (sorry, didn’t catch your full name) won! He walked away with a brand new LF Evo while all the contestants walked away with either a shirt or hat.

There’s so many people I have to thank and I’m sure I’m going to miss someone, but here goes: Rob Anderson and his crew at AXIS Boardsports, Talbot and the Marina, the crew from Lucky Soul Tatoo, all the incredible bands, the “Miracle” Lady from Brookfield Community Chiropractic, the guys from Red Bull, Bruce from LF, the rep from Hyperlite, Chris and his Chill Out Room, Pat and Wakeboarder.com, Steve and Off Axis Gear, Liquid Force, Malibu Boats, Inland Watersports, Hyperlite Wakeboards, Volcom, Electric Sunglasses, Earthwake Web Designs, and anybody else who lended a hand this weekend. You guys are all what makes WICed Fest the defining event in the Northeast! If I forgot your name, I’m sorry…I’m still recovering from all the sun and fun this weekend!

Thanks again to everyone involved…you make WICed Fest kick ass! Look for more pictures and a more in-depth recap soon on the website!

Peace and Butter,

WICed Fest Selects Malibu Boats

Malibu boats have been requested as the official tow boat at yet another booming lifestyle event. WICed Fest, the Northeast’s premiere grassroots wakeboard festival is set to go off June 7- 9 in CT.

(Merced, CA) – Malibu boats have been requested as the official tow boat at yet another booming lifestyle event. WICed Fest, the Northeast’s premiere grassroots wakeboard festival is set to go off June 7th – 9th on Connecticut’s Candlewood Lake. The waters will be seeded with an armada of Malibu boats provided by one of Malibu’s top dealers, East Coast Flightcraft. The town of New Fairfield, CT will welcome WICed Fest thrashers from all over the Northeast.

Event coordinators wrapped their brains around the WICed Fest idea more than 5 years ago and the popularity of this wakeboard lifestyle party has been skyrocketing ever since. Attendance doubled last year and reached the 700-mark. This year Rob Anderson and Dan DeLaiarro, co-founders of WICed Fest, are anticipating even more fun-seeking riders.

DeLaiarro excitedly explains, “WICed Fest is absolutely free! All you need to bring is a pair of board shorts or a bikini and a willingness to have fun!”

The weekend begins Friday night with a huge kick-off party at Down the Hatch, a fun lakeside restaurant and bar with plenty of boat parking. Saturday the party will move to the marina, which is complete with easy-access boat slips, gas and a perfect view of the lake. The aromas of Bar-Be-Q and the sounds of seven bands tag-teaming throughout the day will occupy other senses. The bands will include Silencer, Victors Army, Bigtoplow, Flood, Rainshine, Windfall, and Guerillafinga. The marina will also be the weekend home of a wide array of sponsor booths ranging from Red Bull to Hyperlite.

When asked to describe WICed Fest Anderson responds, “The idea of the entire event is to bring your own boat, drop it in the water, make some new friends, exchange ideas, and have fun.” He continues, “We have expanded on that to include those who do not have boats by offering the demo rides in and behind the Malibus!”

Malibu boats will be mowing through the waters of this grassroots festival launching riders and enticing drivers with the full line of 2002 Wakesetters. Several Malibu boats including the newly purchased WICed Fest Wakesetter VLX will be available for demo rides. The boats and the crew from East Coast Flightcraft, Connecticut will be resting at the marina between sets. Stop by and check them out.

Saturday night the Malibu Luau begins. With the help of luau sponsor and Malibu boat provider, East Cost Flightcraft, the marina will be transformed into a Hawaiian paradise complete with Tiki Hut drink stations, a rockin’ D.J. and delicious luau-style grub. The WICed Fest Malibu fleet will be docked front and center for more up close investigation and the party will rage on in true WICed Fest style.

Anderson summed-up his enthusiasm for WICed Fest 2002 by saying, “I am excited about Malibu’s participation in this year’s event! It is going to be bigger and better than ever!”

A Celebration of Riding and Lifestyle

WICed Fest isn’t just about wakeboarding, it’s about the wakeboarding lifestyle as well. For that reason, the organizers of the WICed Fest have decided to put together not only a grassroots festivals that celebrates riding, but a festival that celebrates the wakeboarding lifestyle. Here’s how we plan on accomplishing that goal:

As has been the case for the last three WICed Fests, we’ll have bands playing all day on Saturday. We had so many people looking to play this year and I thank everyone for their interest. The lineup will look like this:

On top of all these bands, we will have DJ Brian Blair spinning cool beats at the Malibu Luau Saturday night. All this music for free! Does it get any better than this?

Well, it does get better than that. Throughout the weekend, we’ll be having all our sponsors showcasing their newest gear. On top of that, we have invited some people who are involved in the lifestyle aspect of boardsports to come on out.

Fame NYC artist Craig Colorusso will display a special “chill out” room at The Marina. Like the name says, this room will be a place for people to just chill out and hang while they’re not riding or listening to the bands.

Artist Jay Crockett of Lucky Soul Tattoo will have a tent set up to display his work. Festers are more than invited to check out the incredible work that Jay has done and ask him any questions you have. This is going to be a great exhibit, but be warned, this tent is for display only; there will not be any ink work done on-site.

In addition to those two exhibits, Brookfield Community Chiropractic will have an area set up for those of us in pain! What a great addition! Also, the front row of slips will be dedicated to Malibu and East Coast Flightcraft!

Liquid Force Party at Down the Hatch
Friday night, Liquid Force Wakeboards will be sponsoring a party at Down the Hatch, a restaurant/pub located directly on the lake. Pull your boat up and join the fun! You’ll have to be 21 to drink, but for those of you underage WICed Festers, you’re more than welcome to come down and grab some grub. We’ll be giving away wakeboards and other gear there! There will also be drink specials from Pete’s “WICed” Ale!

Malibu Luau at The Marina
For a more laid back atmosphere, come on down to The Marina Saturday night for the Malibu sponsored Luau! We’ll have a Tiki Hut serving up frozen drinks. Again, must be 21 to drink, but we’re working on having virgin drinks for you youngin’s. The docks will have tiki torches running along them and from 8:00 – 10:00 p.m. DJ Brian Blair will be spinning cool beats. We’re also going to have a video of some sort playing and a huge luau style barbeque! There will be more giveaways at this bash!

With all this fun and excitement, there’s still going to be tons of riding going on as well. Be sure to get your sleep in the week before because once you hit Candlewood Lake the weekend of June 7th-9th, it’s partying time!

So remember to come on down and check out the biggest wakeboarding event in the Northeast – WICed Fest 2002!

Feel free to contact Dan or Rob. If you need to call, our phone numbers are under the Contacts section of the web page.
